I'm buying a used digital camera. What accessories should I confirm are included in the deal, and which are nice "extras" but not completely necessary?
For example, do you have to have a software disc in order to upload pics to your pc or to a service like snapfish or winkflash?
I just want a basic digital camera for taking pictures of my kids for a few months while I save up for a bigger camera. I don't want to miss out on several months while I save up, you know?
Really none other than what come with the camera.
Camera,
Battery,
Charger,
CD with a photo program for manipulating your images,
USB cable
Video out cable
Manual
You will certainly want to buy a couple of memory cards the fit your camera … two 1GB cards (under $20 each) to start would be good. In addition buy a card reader ($15 or less) if your computer doesn't already have one.
If you already know what "big" camera you are saving for, find a small one that uses the same memory cards. This will save you some more money

an extra memory card and an extra battery are the most needed and common accessories to buy for your digital camera, other accessories to consider are extra lenses, a flash unit, a tripod, and a carrying case.

3) A card reader — lets you look at your pics quickly on your computer; be sure to get one which accepts your camera's card. No software necessary.
2) Some CDs or DVDs to store your pics — DON'T put 'em all on your computer's hard drive — you'll be sorrry!
1) The #1 Best Accessory for your digicam: an external flash unit which can bounce light. This will make the MOST DIFFERENCE OF ANY ACCESSORY in the quality of your pics. Don't consider a camera which doesn't have the ability to use a bounce flash. Spend more if you have to — you won't regret it.
