an extra memory card and an extra battery are the most needed and common accessories to buy for your digital camera, other accessories to consider are extra lenses, a flash unit, a tripod, and a carrying case.

CD with a photo program for manipulating your images,
USB cable
Video out cable
Manual

You will certainly want to buy a couple of memory cards the fit your camera … two 1GB cards (under $20 each) to start would be good. In addition buy a card reader ($15 or less) if your computer doesn't already have one.

If you already know what "big" camera you are saving for, find a small one that uses the same memory cards. This will save you some more money
